Hi, everyone and thank you for joining us this evening. So as Susan mentioned, I work with the cardiovascular genetics team at Texas Children's Hospital, which includes a few doctors that you might be familiar with Dr. Shane Morris, Dr. Lisa Delos???, and Dr. Justin Weigand. And in our cardiovascular genetics clinic, we follow hundreds of patients and families diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome, vascular EDS and other connective tissue conditions. And I'm really honored to be able to speak to this community as part of The Marfan Foundation's webinar series. so thank you so much for joining us. So as you likely know today, I'll be talking about the role that your genetic counselor plays in your medical journey. Next slide.

And I thought I would start out with just a basic definition of what genetic counseling is. So the National Society of genetic counselor defines genetic counseling as the process of helping people to understand the medical, psychological, and familial implications of the genetic contributions to disease.

And even though I think this is a great definitions, I always find that definitions can kind of be a bit boring, so rather than running through definitions, genetics terms and other dry material with you today, I'll instead be illustrating the topics that were covering today with case examples taken directly from my experience working as a genetic counselor.
