So many people who had already received the J & J vaccine or who were planning to receive the J & J vaccine were alarmed several days ago when the FDA asked for a pause on the administration of this vaccine.

So why did they recommend the pause? It turned out that there were rare cases of what we call clotting events in persons who had received this vaccine and again these events were not observed in persons who had received the Moderna vaccine or the Pfizer vaccine or any of the other platforms that are currently being evaluated but have not yet been approved by the FDA.

And so given that so many people will be vaccinated and we hope will be vaccinated it was incredibly important to determine whether this was a signal that was something that we needed to address that, we needed to figure out and could potentially become much more consequential over the next several months to years.

And that is why the pause was implemented so the pause was to review all of the data that could currently be accessed in those who had gotten this vaccine and so it was not a pause because there was a concern that the vaccine might be harmful. It was a pause so that we could gather the information in order to instruct the public better about which vaccine they should take and what considerations they should have after they've gotten the vaccine.
