At Washington University we've done, we just presented our series at the last surgical meeting of 177 of these patients who had valve sparing procedures, very young patients average age of 43. They often had hypertension or but most often they had a connective tissue issue, Marfan, Loeys-Dietz or other connective tissue issues.

Most of these were elective. We did do some emergently and some of these are the specifics of the surgery.

But the complications are actually quite low for such a complex operation. Atrial fibrillation is something that happens to patients always after heart surgery or very commonly but if you look at the permanent stroke and 30-day mortality if you're doing this operation on a frequent basis and you are experienced with it the results can be quite good.

If you look at late survival, 97 percent at five years, 91 percent at 10 years and this includes patients all over the spectrum of age, so this is quite, quite good and freedom from having to reintervene on the valve is also quite significantly good. The valve with the repair will last a long, long time.
