Alright, so if you're wondering what else your genetic counselor is able to help you with, my most important piece of advice is to just ask. Next slide.

I once had a patient mother asked me if I could help, help her find a way to permanently store DNA from her husband, who had recently passed away.

And being a very new genetic counselor at the time, I really hadn't done this before, but I knew that I had the skills and knowledge to help her out, especially at a time when she was still adjusting to life without her husband and when she had plenty of other things to worry about, so I was able to find a reputable DNA banking laboratory just to store her husband's DNA and I was able to help coordinate all the paperwork, the logistics, which including speaking with representatives from the laboratory and the medical examiner's office and I also helped with the shipment of the husband, for example, from the medical examiner's office in Texas to the laboratory in California.

So even if you're not sure if your genetic counselor is the right person to ask your question to, I say just ask anyways, you know, if they aren't the ones with the answer, we often know how to find the person or the resource that has the answer that you're looking for.
