We're going to talk about aging a little bit in general and then, then in aging with regard to Marfan syndrome and related conditions.

I'm going to start off with a case. So this is one of our patients who's 59 and she's been known to have Marfan syndrome for a long time.

When she was 53, she did have an operation and had the valve sparing root repair done so that took care of an immediate problem of the enlarging aorta and this is an image of her aorta. So you can, you know, hardly tell, but it's been repaired and so that's out of the way.

However, now at age 59 there's been a new problem where she's developed some unsteadiness in her gait and she came and had a pretty comprehensive evaluation with imaging and neurology consultation and a EMG test of muscles and nerves, and basically several conditions were found that; she has lumbar dural ectasia, which I'll show you an image, as many people with Marfan syndrome already have; she has a degenerative arthritis in her hips; and she also had a peripheral neuropathy. It wasn't completely clear which of these were responsible for her problem but probably all three were.
