So what is genome editing? So it's a global term that's meant to imply purposeful modification of the DNA within a target cell type or tissue, so in essence, for the purpose of this talk will be considering the correction of the FBN1 gene change that causes Marfan syndrome in a given individual.

In essence, it's a strategy to fix the problem, to change the DNA and allow the cell to make the proper amount of normal protein. This editing can occur in cells that are removed from the body that are altered or fixed and then are returned to the body with the hope that they will perform their intended function. There are also evolving methods to perform gene correction or genome editing inside the body and we'll talk about both of these approaches.
つまり、DNAを修正することで、細胞が正常なタンパク質を適切な量だけ作り出せるようになり、問題が解決するという戦略がゲノム編集です。体から取り出された細胞をゲノム編集の標的とすることができます。取り出した細胞を、意図した機能を果たすことができるよう修正して再び体内に戻します。遺伝子を修正する方法や体内の細胞に対しゲノム編集を行う手法は進歩していますので、以後はこれらについて説明します。
