So today we're going to be thinking about not just what Marfan looks like but we're going to be thinking about it in the context of the patient and the provider. What does it look like, what do we need to think about its patients or you think about its patients and what do providers need to think about.

There are many faces and presentations of the Marfan syndrome but the reason why we care about that is because as clinicians we may be faced by your question of, "Well, is this Marfan syndrome or is this Loeys-Dietz?” And why do we care because the way we manage it may be different. Remember, diagnosis, proper diagnosis equals proper treatment so understanding the difference between one or the other is very important in that context.

For instance even though I'm not going to spend a lot of time with Loeys-Dietz, we know that those individuals with Loeys-Dietz often will have a bifid uvula, not generally found in the Marfan syndrome. And also cleft palate but not always.
