COVID-19 Update for the Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, and VEDS Community

This is a very interesting survey that the NIH did looking at the question, "Does it look like COVID-19 has a predilection to cause worse outcomes in individuals with rare genetic diseases?" and this included rare eye conditions, rare lung disease, and, and some of the vascular disorders represented by individuals in this audience. There were over 200 patients in this survey that had either Marfan, Loeys-Dietz or vEDS.

Very few of the individuals surveyed became severely sick or were admitted to an ICU and there were no, there were no deaths in this particular study looking at over 250 patients with vascular disorders rare genetic conditions and COVID-19.

I can recall a year ago a worry that that possibly the inflammatory response in COVID-19 might attack the aorta, for example, in patients with genetic aortic diseases. We simply have not seen that and so that's really good news for the audience who's on the call tonight.
