What percentage of Marfan patients will experience in aortic dissection or require surgery?

A:
The majority will have a surgery but not an aortic dissection. Our goal is to prevent aortic dissection by recognition of the condition and then timely surgery at an aortic threshold. That's a shared decision generally about five centimeters.

About 10 percent of people with Marfan syndrome will have descending aortic disease and that can be an aortic dissection and unfortunately we don't have any good markers as to why that occurs. It's typically not in a setting of enlargement of the aorta.
